Honestly, while some people ban them for tradition’s sake, other people just don’t like them. I switched to Gaynor Minden’s at one point because I liked the idea of longer-lasting shoes. I did ballet for about six years as a kid and was just about to graduate to using point shoes. My parents decided it wasn’t a good idea, so I stopped. Male speaking here, and former ballet dancer, but there is a newer “tech” shoe brand called Gaynor Minden’s (sp). It’s a controversial pointe shoe in ballet because they are more ridged (thus the longevity) but it limits the line of the leg that is praised in ballet. Also, there is a feeling amongst some that it’s a hindrance to dancers because Some Girls Are Just Born With Ballet In Their Souls Shirt don’t feel the pain of years of practice and use it as an easy crutch if they use only mittens, therefore, making them weaker dancers. Again never trained en pointe but just an observation. Pain is easily mitigated with ouch-pouches, lambswool, or whatever bandage a dancer prefers. But, if a dancer isn’t doing the work themselves, they risk career-ending injuries.
