I’d argue the state should have a monopoly on violence, it’s just that power SHOULD also come with a very high level of responsibility and accountability. If a cop kills someone in custody it should be as unthinkable as a judge shooting someone when the jury rules “not guilty”. Judges, legislators, sheriffs, etc should have worked together on legislation/jurisprudence/policies that really hold bad cops accountable decades ago… We need to keep turning up the pressure until they do.
