As a Canadian… First past the post works terribly Jump Now Work Later Shirt federally. If I vote Liberal in Alberta, you might as well throw it in the trash. One vote should equal one vote for a party. As a Canadian who wants electoral reform, I actually do not want to vote for a party. That makes the political parties too powerful. Instead, I would prefer something like STV, where you’re electing multiple candidates for a given electoral district, but because of the way the math works out, you still wind up with proportionality. The difference is that the winning candidates are selected by the electors, rather than the party. Also not just the EC. Congress in general needs to be overhauled.
Jump Now Work Later Shirt, Tank Top, V-neck, Sweatshirt, And Hoodie
Single-member (winner-take-all) districts are the Jump Now Work Later Shirt inherent problem. Since winning with 51% is just as good as winning with 90%, (and therefore losing with 49% is just as bad as losing with 10%) this inherently creates a two-party system. There’s no reason to run unless you’re already capable of winning an outright majority. I don’t live in NYC, but every time I hear about their RCV ballots I get the feeling they are doing a really bad job teaching voters how to use them. I’m dreading this very high-profile mayoral race turning into a big PR nightmare for RCV if too many people fill out the ballots wrong.
